Goals that survive real life
15 May 2026 · 6 min read · Aiya Berdikhani

Goals fail for an unglamorous reason: they are written on a Sunday, for a week that does not exist, by someone with more time and fewer obligations than you.
Write yours against your real calendar. Where exactly does this live? What does it displace? If nothing is displaced, it will not happen.
Write the goal for the week you actually have, not the one you wish you had.
Then halve it. Almost everyone plans at roughly double their sustainable capacity, and the overshoot is what produces the guilt spiral.
Finally, name the first action in verbs a tired person could follow. 'Get fit' is a wish. 'Walk twenty minutes after lunch on weekdays' is a plan.
