What burnout actually asks of you
3 June 2026 · 8 min read · Aiya Berdikhani

Burnout is usually treated as a battery problem, so we prescribe rest. Rest is necessary and it is rarely sufficient.
Under most burnout is a mismatch: between what you are doing and what you believe it is for, or between what you have agreed to and what you can actually carry.
A holiday fixes tiredness. It does not fix a life you have to recover from.
That means recovery involves renegotiation. Fewer commitments, clearer boundaries, sometimes a different role entirely. This is the part people would rather skip.
Start with an inventory. List everything you are currently responsible for, then mark what you would not take on again today. That list is your agenda.
If your exhaustion has clinical features, see a doctor first. Coaching works alongside that, not instead of it.
